M. Larry Copeland, DO, FAOAO, FACOS, FAOASM
Dr. Copeland obtained his Undergraduate Degree from the University of Missouri and his D.O. Degree from the University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine, Kansas City, Missouri. He completed one year of Internship and four years of Residency in Detroit and began practice in Massillon, Ohio in 1972. There he did all aspects of orthopedics along with the developing of hip and knee replacements. He then moved to Cleveland, with Ohio University, where he was an Associate Professor of Orthopedics and did teaching and General Orthopedics. He has been practicing in Grand Junction since 1979 and has done General Orthopedics with special interests in Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy, Joint Replacement, Spine, Foot and Ankle.
He has earned Fellowship status in Surgery, Orthopedics, and Sports Medicine. He has been the Past President of the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics, was officer of the governing Board of the American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine and was one of the Founding Directors of the Colorado Orthopedic Society.
Dr. Copeland was one of the first 35 physicians in the United States to receive a certificate of competence in sports medicine. In his early training, he worked with the Detroit Pistons, Red Wings, and Tigers. He has been a Team Physician at Mesa State College since 1980.
Since moving to Grand Junction in 1979, he has been a Rotarian, served on the Mesa State College Foundation, has worked with and has been on the Board of the Sports for the Physically Challenged and has been on the Advisory Board of the Mesa County Economic Development Counsel. He was inducted into the Mesa State Hall of Honor in 2000.
Dr. Copeland enjoys ranching, sports and outdoor activities. He and his wife Janice have 3 children and 5 grandchildren.
